Sultan was
very fond of perfume and most of the days he used to wear one or the other
perfume for work. The rub off effect was noticed on RINN too who also started using
perfume regularly. As RINN had been coming early and leaving work early her
salary including Over Time had hit the roof.
She also
started arriving to factory on Saturdays to factory on some pretext or the
other to be around Sultan who was present on Saturdays for some or the other
maintenance work. This too proved a boon for RINN to get more over time and more
salary.
With the
removal of her from Team Leader position she still managed to clock in long hours on account of
her position in China machine. This high
level of salary had got into her head and she started neglecting her work and
people surrounding her. It had gone to such an extent that she started
neglecting all Indians and their greetings too!
Sulatn had
got the scent of the impending disciplinary actions against him and started
behaving more carefully. But RINN on the other hand become delinquent.
The show
down took place on the day of V inyak Chathurthi which for South Indians an
important festival. RINN and one of the packing girls were served show cause
notice by HR head the previous day. They were called to the director’s chamber
and told that they would be sacked.
There was a
big drama in HR Manager’s room. RINN was a bit calm and composed. But the other
girl proved to be too weak and fell at our feet and profusely apology. By then
RINN had also started crying and folding her hands begging for clemency.
Our Director
was moved. Then we agreed to serve them final warning to both of them and
retain them in job. I put a rider that she would no longer work in China
machine and she would be moved from there. She had no choice and had to agree.
Sultan had a
meeting with all of us Director, HR head, me & RINN. But he was so stubborn
and never agreed to any misdeed either inside the factory or outside. Despite
stating that RINN had confided and given a written statement he was so stubborn
and stated that RINN was telling lies. But for a friendship on face book they
have no other connection what so ever.
RINN in
front of all the team inside the HR manager’s room thanked me so profusely
expressing her gratitude. I told her that by proving to be a worthy employee
following the foot- steps of some of the successful role mod. She agreed to do
so.
We had no
choice other than retaining Sultan with a warning and a fresh probation for six
month. But his colleague play boy who by then had made the other girl pregnant
had an unceremonious sacking on the same week. This proved to be big shock for
the Indian team and they all became extra careful in dealing with local
Malagasy work force.
